Backpacking with daddy

Lisa writes: We picked this up at ECHO and it has turned out to be really handy. James loves it. They go walking around the neighborhood like this every week.

Backpacking

Lisa writes: The boys met me at the bus stop after work. We went on a walkabout around the neighborhood. This route always passes the frozen yogurt place. Tom did not bring his wallet. Tom is sneaky like that.

James is 50 weeks old: Going full-penguin

Image
Lisa writes: I get emotionally attached to some of his cute little outfits. I find them adorable and want him to wear them over and over because I know he'll grow out of them in, oh, 45 minutes. This is the "full-penguin:" penguin pants, penguin onesie, penguin sweater (wool blend! hand wash! nutso!) In the past five days or so James has gone from Army crawling to tentatively getting up on all fours to getting around FAST. He can race across a room now. He's also gotten a lot more confident about pulling himself to standing, even without real handholds (like pulling himself up against a bare wall), and he can always sit back down again EXCEPT at night. Twice now we've heard him crying in his crib and, when he didn't stop after a couple of minutes, we went in to comfort him and found him standing up, stuck and weeping, because he was too tired and confused to figure out how to get back down. The crib-crying has been a nightly thing for the...

Tom texted me: "It got quiet"

Ready to ride

Lisa writes: After breakfast, we went by Target and James pulled stuff off the shelves and we put it back on. Fun times for everybody!   I wish this helmet came in a smaller size. He's rocking this look.

James is 49 weeks old: Daddy's birthday breakfast

Image
Lisa writes: St. Patrick's Day is Tom's birthday so we met up with his mom and brother for breakfast at Le Pan Quotidien. Tom said that he had so much fun, it felt like he was on vacation. Tim and Tom got the omelets, Trudi got the bread basket, I got a brioche French toast with fruit, and James had a little bit of everything and threw most of it on the floor.

James is 48 weeks old (11 months): Neat stuff he can do

Image
Lisa writes: At 11 months James can crawl for-real style, up on the hands and knees and everything. No more of that belly-scooting stuff. He likes to feed himself. He likes to repeat sounds (people, dogs, birds, the sounds things make when Tom accidentally drops them) and initiate noises for you to repeat. He can squeal long and loud -- often with delight; sometimes in frustration. He does this cute thing when he's getting tired or cold where, when you're holding him facing you, he tucks his hands down in front of him to keep them warm. He sometimes lies in his crib talking to himself in the morning. He isn't afraid of applause anymore. He can walk for a long time holding your fingers. He pulls himself up on everything and is getting pretty good at getting back down without catastrophe. He can turn the pages of board books. We think he is getting his two top teeth in because he's chewing on everything again and darts his tongue in and out against his top gums like a liz...

Pierogifest 2015

Image
Lisa writes: We met up with Kira and Aidan's parents for the Friday night Lenten pierogi dinner at the Byzantine church in Annandale. It's a fascinating, butter-soaked cultural experience. One thing we've learned from these is that absolutely no one agrees on how to spell pierogi.

James is 47 weeks old: Dinner is a full-body experience
