Baby Benadryl

Image
Lisa writes: James had a fever off and on from Thursday to Sunday morning. When he coughed so hard he brought up some of his breakfast this morning, Tom took him to the pediatrician. She said whatever he had, he was already over the worst of it and to take him home and give him some Benadryl to "dry him up." Those were her words. This is what happened. Tom was working from home. 2:20 p.m. Tom writes: Time to change positions. 3:30 p.m. Tom writes: "3:30..." Finally at 4:00 p.m. Tom writes: "Party time. He is happy. But I left him alone for a moment with his cell phone, the one he inherited from you, and when I returned he hid it quickly and had a guilty look on his face. He tried to cover his tracks by logging out, but it was still on Facebook. God knows what the neighborhood munchkins are plotting. I just sat down and James brought a book to read. Gotta go."

Milestone: First temper tantrum?

Lisa writes: Yesterday, James was chewing on a book. I politely took it away from him. He paused, turned bright red, threw himself on his back on the carpet and howled. I looked at him for a couple of seconds, then walked away. (That's what you're supposed to do, right?) After a couple of minutes he stopped and crawled over to find me and we were buddies again.

Lisa writes: We missed the message that this event was black-tie (oops), but showing up with the baby in the traditional Chinese outfit absolves a multitude of social sins.

Milestones: 2 words

Lisa writes: This morning James woke up and started calling to us from his crib. Tom picked him up then put him in bed with me while he went to fix a bottle. James watched Tom walk out the door and then said, "Dada baba" and did the baby-sign for "bottle." Two words! We're calling that a sentence.
