Festival of Colors

Image
Lisa writes: Debbie, Kellen, and my nephew Christian went to the Spanish Fork Krishna temple Festival of Colors on Saturday. Here's a snippet of the loopiness. BYU students at their wildest, (and most colorful). I'm pretty sure the guy they interviewed in the clip came and spoke at one of my humanities classes. That would have been 13 years ago and he still looks exactly the same. Debbie wrote: "Cool. Yeah. I don't really get into the music. Hare Krishna Hare hare Krishna Hare hare rama hare rama.... I heard some kids in the parking lot last year jumping up and down singing Mormons, mormons, mormons, lots of mormons mormons mormons..."

The frog in the outhouse story

Lisa's mom writes: Donny's old scoutmaster, Lou, was in our dental office today for a cleaning. We were talking about former scouts. Lou said, "Donny was a very 'active' scout. He created his own activities. Did he ever tell you about the time he decide to drop a huge rock in the outhouse toilet? He came screaming out with a brown face and his hands high and spent the next 4 hours in the shower!" Lisa writes: I just so happened to have the Poopmeister on the phone when I read Mom's email and I asked him if this episode was true. He said it was. He and his equally clueless little buddy, Blaine, caught a frog and had the bright idea to drop it in the outhouse. The hole was 20 feet deep and they found a flashlight and looked at it down there and then felt sorry for it. Naturally, they then decided to put it out of its misery by dropping rocks on it. They dropped bigger and bigger rocks, which the frog adroitly avoided. Finally, Blaine found a really, reall...

Happy birthday, Tom!

Lisa's sister, Christi, sent the best birthday text of the day: Happy Bday Tom! I think you shld go skinny dipping in the White House's green water fountain to mark this occasion and then explain to the nice little police officer that you were just swimming in your birthday suit. After all these years it still fits like a glove ... as Grandpa Robbins liked to say, "If you got it, flaunt it." :-)

It's purple for Lent

Lisa writes: Multiple choice question! Tom's mother, Trudi, broke her ankle: a. Pretending to be a fireman. b. Pretending to be a doctor. c. Pretending to be a priest. Answer: C. She was playing the part of the priest while training a new Eucharistic minister when she took a wrong step off the brick dais and hit the brick floor. She's laid up in bed for three weeks, but at least she has a good story to tell. And a cast to sign!

Buttermilk syrup sounds a lot more innocent than it is

Lisa writes: This recipe stands against everything I profess to believe when it comes to food. And it is absolutely delicious. You have been warned. Buttermilk syrup (put it on pancakes or just mainline it) 1/2 cup butter 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup buttermilk 1 tablespoon corn syrup Combine ingredients in a sauce pan over medium heat. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Add 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1 teaspoon vanilla. (Warning: It will bubble up vigorously when you add the baking soda!) Stir to combine. Add 2 teaspoons orange or lemon zest, or 1 teaspoons cinnamon.

Headed to the State History Fair -- it's like the regular State Fair, but with fewer corndogs

Lisa's sister, Christi, writes: Madi is going to State in the History Fair. You can view her award-winning website here: Silent Spring Lisa writes: In other news, Madison is almost as tall as a refrigerator.

Lisa writes: Mom just sent a picture of this guy she calls "My pet." This was taken at my dad's dental office. The squirrel checks in the windows to see if they're in and whether any peanuts might be forthcoming. This isn't nearly as endearing as the one at their house who follows them from bedroom window to bathroom window, hoping for the same thing. Thought for the day, Mom: Squirrels have seen you nekked.
