My brother, and my other brother

Lisa writes: Tom is one of 2 or 5 children, depending on how you count them (full and half-siblings), but for practical purposes, there are two other brothers who deserve mention.

Tom, tell us about your furry little brothers.

Tom writes: Well, Lisa, what a great intro [grin]. One interesting thing about these two guys is that they adopted us (I was living with my mother at time, so "us" here means my mom and me). Sebalius used to live in a house at the entrance to our neighborhood, but was known to wander the neighborhood and work the circuit. Though his slender physique would not betray it, he was able to endear himself to enough neighbors to have them feed him whenever he showed up on their doorstep. However, he is a quiet guy, and as young boys in his house grew older and more rambunctious, he spent more time with us. And when they got a new dog, he pretty much moved in full time. And so, the Anderson household had a cat once again.

Unlike Sebalius, who was an adult when he joined us, Mustafa was no more than a year old. He showed up on our doorstep one cold winter morning with a gimp on one leg. We locked him in the basement to prevent fights with Sebalius and gave him some food, and he left the next day. Only to come back (as cats are wont to do). This time we decided to take him in for good. Sadly for him, his rite of initiation into the household included a trip to the vet for a certain surgery to remove those parts that made him a him. As he recovered locked up in a spare bathroom, I would visit him, tend his wound, and tried to explain to him that once he got the hang of it, he would come to enjoy living with us: the house was dry, about the same temperature year around, and there was plenty of food. He is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, so it took him a while to figure this out. But now it is hard to get him to go out!

And though they bicker (Mustafa always wants to be right where Sebalius is while Sebalius wants to be where Mustafa is not) they are great companions for Mom...
