Merida English Library Art Gallery Tour

The Merida English Library organizes tours a couple of times a month. Today, we went on their guided art gallery tour in the Santa Ana neighborhood. There are at least a dozen galleries in about a three block radius. The boys are still on winter break (three weeks!) so this was one way to get them out of the house and walking around.

This first one is actually a house where the artist family lives. There's a mom, dad, and two daughters they are all professional artists. The whole front of the house and the patio/pool area are full of their art: paintings, bronze sculptures, charcoal drawings. All kind of modern and weird and very Mexican.

The kids said, "Star Wars!"


Old buildings in Merida usually have famously high ceilings. Like, 18 feet high. but this particular one was barely above 6 feet: notice Tom's head against the beam. Duck!

Our soul-destroying bathroom remodel in excruciating detail: Nearly done

Lisa writes: We had friends visit for lunch yesterday, and while we boring grown-ups talked and talked at the table, the 5 and 3 year old explored the house and found the stationary bicycle. Moments later, the 5 and 3 year old began fighting and crying over the stationary bicycle so I, in my infinite wisdom, pushed the "lock" button on the doorknob of that room and closed the door. Problem solved ... until later that night when we wanted to open the door. There is a little hole on the exterior knob which, presumably, you stick some sort of implement into to unlock the door, but we lack this implement and nothing else in the house -- and I mean NOTHING, 'cause we tried EVERYTHING -- will work. Tom loves me anyway, and we will both love whomever we find at Home Depot tonight who can point us to the right tool.
