New kitchen floor
Lisa writes: We put down a new vinyl floor in the kitchen. It only took 30+ hours and a lot of tears. (That's "tears," rhymes with "deers.") It's a long, boring, melodramatic story, but basically the old floor was scratched and UV-yellowed 12x12 inch vinyl stickers and the new floor is one, big, shiny, beautiful piece. And we'll probably never attempt to do this again.
Can't see it very well, but here's the old floor. Please note the square in the middle where the previous owners tried to swap out some of the worst scratched squares for new ones.
Here's the process. Take everything out of the kitchen, including trim. Get some big pieces of paper and try to make a pattern of your oddly-shaped floor. Tape it all together and use it to cut out the big piece of vinyl you've spread out on your driveway to the neighbors' amusement. Assume this will take, oh, a couple of hours and then cry when you discover it takes the entire day.
And there might be some other steps in here but let's just assume *MAGIC HAPPENED* and now you have an awesome new non-embarrassing floor. Yay!
